Project Overview
Beach Grub is an beach themed restaurant chain that is located in mostly suburban and metropolitan areas. Having a mobile app will help attract new customers while also retaining current ones. Features such as ordering in advance, paying online and delivery options will appease customer’s needs.
Customers get frustrated when they have to wait in long lines to make an order, interrupting their day.
The Problem
Create a mobile order and payment app to allow customers to skip lines and continue with their day.
The Goal
Understanding the User
After user research was conducted (interviews, empathy maps, etc) it was found that a primary user group were adults who did not want to wait in lines to order food. It was found that a lot of customers that come to one the restaurant heavy busy schedules (being during the work day or spending time at the beach on their day off) and want a fast and efficient way to grab a snack.

Persona: Olivia Ancora
User Journey Map
Mappings Olivia’s user journey revealed how beneficial having an app to make orders for Beach Grub in advanced would be.
Starting the Design
Paper Wireframes
Multiple iterations of each screen helped produce a version that addressed the user pain points
Digital Wireframes
Initial screen design of each page was designed with the focus of ease of use and being quick and efficient.
One of users key need when choosing the “pick-up” option, they would like to choose the restaurant for their order.
Low-fidelity Prototype
Usability Study: Findings
After creating the lo-fi prototype a simple usability study was conducted.
Refining the Design
Design process continued with further refining of the “look” of the app while addressing findings from the usability studies. For example, making the operation flow of the app more logical for the user. (Letting the user choose the location before you start your order.)

Going Forward
Takeaways
Impact:
The Beach Grub app makes users feel like they are saving time and get their orders quickly.
What I learned: Designing the Beach Grub app has taught me that iterations on initial ideas will almost always result in a better end product.
More studies to reconfirm pain points of users has been addressed.
More research to see if there are other areas that could be improved or added.
